I consider it the holy grail of Internet Marketing.
If you got top rankings for your targeted keywords, you'll be able to get FREE traffic from it. And if your content is relevant, you'll probably get tons of conversions too!
My goal in this article is show and teach you how to get started with SEO or Search Engine Optimization even if you've never done this before.
This will be a guide that you can easily follow and remember without focusing too much on the technical details. Let's dive right in.
The Biggest Problem In Search Engine Optimization
When the first search engines like YAHOO, Webcrawler, Alta Vista, etc launched online, people have been trying to figure out how SEO works. But it wasn't really when Google came into the scene way back in 1996-1997 that SEO changed our world and how we search for information.
Prior to 2011-2012 (before Google Panda and Penguin's algorithmic updates) people where doing a lot of SEO stuff that can be considered grey-hat or "black-hat". Strategies that are shady and that are working especially on very competitive niches.
Fast forward 2019, those shady strategies have become less and less effective, while Google has undergone a lot of improvements in terms of ranking websites. Google has also become more efficient in understanding what your search intent is about. So if it knows that you're looking for the "Apple" store instead of the fruit "apple" when you search Apple, it will show you that information.
Why am I sharing this? It's because I want to address the problem of "trying to beat" the search engines. If you spend your time, energy and resources to try and beat the search engines, you'll lose.
That is not the way to WIN in the SEO game. You have to think long term. You have to think of building a BRAND and AUTHORITY in your niche and website (has something to do with the Knowledge Graph), and finally you have to be CONSISTENT in this as SEO is constantly evolving! (Hello Voice Search - and probably VR search soon)
How To WIN the SEO Game
As I've already mentioned, you need to be constantly updated with what's new in the SEO world. Read Google Webmaster Blog for the latest updates.
Use Google Search Console (which is probably the #1 SEO tool you should be using for 2019 and beyond), and most importantly continue publishing on your blog and online properties.
Use Youtube as well, because Google crawls Youtube videos and ranks them in the search results, you'll get FREE organic traffic when your Youtube Videos starts ranking as well.
Case Studies And Results
I've got great news for you. SEO still works and SEO is definitely not dead. Just look at some of the Top rankings that I have for this website: TRAFFICSALAD
These are not random, non-buyer keywords, but keywords that drive traffic, leads, and most importantly sales.
How To Get Top SEO Rankings Step By Step
Are you excited to Get Top Rankings and FREE Traffic from Google? You Should!
And I'll share with you the exact strategy that I use to get to the top of the search results.
First, you need to take care of the Technical SEO aspect.
You need to make sure that your website is crawlable, using the right permalinks, and that your website loads properly on a mobile device.
Start optimizing for mobile devices first as mobile optimization is a ranking factor. HTTPS is also a ranking factor. There are over 200+ ranking factors in Google, but these are the most important ones.
Also, if your content allows for Rich Snippet Structures, use those as well. Some examples of content that can use Rich Snippets includes Recipes, Reviews, etc.
Second, you need to create HIGH quality content that is highly relevant to the topic or keyword that you'd like to target. Forget creating content based on keyword research alone. You need to be creating content based on TOPIC.
For example, let's say my keyword research gave me different keyword variations on "search engine optimization", "search engine optimization course", "search engine optimization tools", etc. It's best to create ONE long article that targets all of those keywords. What's best is to use those different variants as H2 keywords. These helps the search engine understand that your content is about "Search engine optimization".
Of course, if you want to break out the content of each variant, let's say SEO Tools, you can do that as well, but try to create content that is at least 2,000+ words for PILLAR or CORNERSTONE content, and at least 1,000+ words for supporting content.
For example, this article, the beginner's guide to SEO is a PILLAR content and the article the Top 3 SEO tools is a supporting content or article.
